SC H 3344
Cockfighting a Felony (passed House) - Repeals
misdemeanor offense of cockfighting making it a
felony on the third
offense.
SC H.B. 3275 Shooting a Bovine or Equine (Currently Pending) - Any person who is convicted of or pleads guilty or nolo contendere (no contest) to a criminal offense resulting from the shooting of any bovine (cow) or equine (horse) animal shall also have his hunting privileges suspended for two years.
SC H.B. 3879 Internet Hunting
(Passed Senate) - Makes it
illegal for a person to engage in computer-assisted remote
hunting or provide or operate
facilities for computer-assisted remote hunting if the animal
is located in the state of South
Carolina. PLEASE CALL YOUR LOCAL
REPRESENTATIVES AND URGE THEM TO SUPPORT THIS BILL.
SC S.B. 626 Intense Confinement
(Pending) - Amends the state cruelty law to make it illegal
to confine or restrict the
movement of an animal in a way that
inflicts extended and unnecessary suffering. This legislation
exempts birds and
common agriculture practice
SC S 959 (Pending in
the Senate) Which enacts the "Exotic Animal Control & Regulation Act" so
as to define exotic
animals as those species of animals
that are inherently dangerous to humans; To prohibit a person
from owning or
possessing an exotic
animal unless the person was in legal possession of the animal before this act
takes affect and
the person obtains a permit; To
establish care and treatment and insurance requirements; To
prohibit public contact with
an exotic animal; To authorize inspections by the DNR
SC H 4457 (Pending in the House) Provides that no animal shelter in this state may donate, sell or transfer a living animal for animal research
SC H 4804 (Residing in the House) To enact the "Protection of Pets and Companion Animals Act of 2006", to define the terms "companion animal" and "pet", to create the offense of stealing a companion animal or pet with the intent or purpose of selling the companion animal or pet for scientific research and to provide a penalty. SC H 4225 (Residing in the House) Makes it unlawful for a person to intentionally abandon a dog on public or certain private property or fails to report the dog as lost to a local law enforcement agency.
SC S 0810 (Residing in the House) Provides that any dangerous animal that attacks a human being or domestic animal must be seized and impounded.
SC H 3830 (Residing in House) Remove Barbituric Acid derivatives from the authorized list of methods for euthanasia
and to include Schedule II and III
controlled substance euthanasia agents OPPOSED by SFA
SC S. 304 Factory Farm
Regulation (Currently Pending) Limits a
local government's authority to regulate factory farms.
SC S. 86 & H.B. 3313 Cruelty to
Birds (Pending) - Amends current law
prohibiting egregious acts of cruelty to animals by exempting birds who are
on farms or in the wild
