Madelyn Shedd has always had compassion and love for animals and has tried to instill that love in all of the people in her daily life…her family, friends, colleagues, and students. She has been a volunteer with Speak for Animals for years and a board member for the past 3 years. As a board member, she is in charge of community events and focuses on humane education. She has also volunteered at Greenville County Animal Care, helping to plan and carry out the first children’s camp at the shelter, and shares a love of service with her middle school students through her community service club. She is proud of her involvement to help animals, children, and families in our dynamic and caring Greenville community!
Madelyn grew up in Greenville and has lived in this area her whole life except for a short time in Atlanta during graduate school. She has a BA degree from Furman University and a Master of Education degree from Georgia State University. Since graduating, Madelyn has pursued her career in education and loves working with her amazing students at Hillcrest Middle School. She teaches Beginning French and French I, and adores the French language and culture, especially their love for their pets…dogs are allowed everywhere in France! In addition to teaching, she is involved in school staff service projects and volunteers helping animals and children in our community with her student service club members. She has previously worked in other teaching, administrative, and consulting positions in the Greenville County Schools and is dedicated to public education and her students.
Madelyn’s family is very important to her! She is married to Pat Shedd and has two daughters, Leslie and Kelly, a son-in-law, Brian, and a precious new grandson named William. Her whole family is crazy about animals!! She and Pat have two dogs named Maggie and Bailey! They also claim their daughters’ dogs and cats, Benji, Finley, Ripken, and Morris, as their own as well. All of their pets are rescues and they are all part of the family! Madelyn is proud of her family legacy of love for all creatures great and small!!
