John Riley
John's first interaction with animals began in the early 60s, when his family consisted of four people and two Boxers named "Patience" and "Prudence." Although he was very young at that time, John remembers Patience and Prudence very fondly. During his time, he developed both an appreciation and respect for all animals, especially dogs.
Growing up, the Riley house never lacked for animals, whether it would be cats lounging in the window sill or dogs sleeping in their favorite spot. And the occasional stray dog or cat that would show up was always welcomed, so that it became common knowledge that there was room at the Riley's.
Once he finished his university studies and was settled in his career, John wished to continue with his love for animals by volunteering at a local animal welfare group in Greenville. Enter Speak for Animals! After hearing about SFA from a friend, he decided to see if he could get involved.
At that time, SFA was involved in their "Spay-Mania" campaign. This community outreach campaign provided no-cost spay and neuter services for dogs and cats in certain low-income neighborhoods of Greenville. After participating for the first time, John knew that this was for him, not only because of the mission of Spay-Mania and SFA, but also for the chance to interact with other animal lovers.
Currently, John lives in Simpsonville with his family which includes Maggie, their four-year-old hound/pit bull mix. Being retired allows John and Maggie the time to pursue both animal and non-animal-related interests and hobbies, such as playing along on The Price Is Right! Maggie usually wins . . .
